My Granny

My Granny (my mom's mother) was a wonderful woman! She was sweet and loving and the best grandmother. She passed away from breast cancer when I was in college. I think of her often and have such fond memories of our time together.

This is me and my Granny on my first birthday.

As I said before, I think of her often. There are many things that trigger memories of her. When my kids fight, I sometimes remember the way she would make me and my brothers resolve conflict - we had to sit in opposite corners of the room and make silly faces at each other until we were no longer mad at each other and we were laughing.  The Sunbonnet Sue quilt she made me when I was 4 hangs on the wall in my daughter's room.  Whenever I eat a fresh tomatoe right out of the garden, I think of her garden and how she had fresh sliced tomatoes on the table at every meal. When I see a picture, ceramic figure, or stuffed animal that is a mouse, especially at Christmas time, I think of her massive mouse collection.  It started when she wrote a poem about Christmas with her family from the point of view of the mouse in the house. From then on, we all gave her mice whenever we found them.

There are many, many more things that make me think of her, but the strongest memories always seem to come from being with my children, even though she never got to meet them. All of my kids, but my boys in particular, have always loved for me to lay down in their beds with them and sing them to sleep. I have always loved to sing and have sang to all my children since they were born. I was not much of a lullaby singer, but I sang slow church/gospel songs to them. As I laid in bed with my youngest son yesterday trying to get him to take a nap, I was singing to him and had a very strong memory of my Granny. She used to always sing old hymns while she quilted or sitting on the porch shelling peas. Towards the end of her life, she was put in hospice due to the nature of her cancer. I went to visit her while she was there and sat by her bedside. I will never forget holding her hand and singing the hymns to her while she laid there with her eyes closed. Everytime I thought she was asleep and stopped singing, she would lift one eyelid and look at me in a way that said "Why did you stop?" and I would begin again. She was there for me my whole life, giving me love and other things I needed (and spoiled me with lots of things I didn't necessarily need!)...I'm so glad I could be there for her in her last moments on this earth. She was such a good, Godly woman - I know she is with our Father in heaven watching over us now.

I love you, Granny! Glad you're mine!

Mother's Day 2011

I had such a wonderful Mother's Day this year!  I have the most wonderful children and husband in the world!  We didn't get up to go to church because I was not feeling real well and I was super tired because I hadn't slept good the past couple of nights, so Joseph and the kids got up and made me breakfast and brought it to me in bed.  What a great way to wake up!!  They made me eggs, sausage, and toast.  It was delicious!  Then the kids piled on the bed and gave me their presents.  Kaytlyn had a small flower plant in a pot that she had painted and a handmade card.  Gage's teacher made a necklace with his picture on it for me and he made a little booklet called "Hats Off To Mom".  Then sweet little Cooper made me a card that he drew a flower on.

Then I laid around while the kids and Joseph cleaned the house (sort of! It was their version of clean!) and then we had a family game of Uno.  The kids played outside after that filling up water balloons to have a water balloon fight while Joseph cleaned the pool.  Then Joseph cooked me a wonderful dinner that evening!  He made steak, shrimp, asparagus, and rosemary potatoes.  YUMMY!!  Then he got a cherry cheesecake for dessert (my favorite!).  We played another round of Uno after dinner then the kiddos went to bed.

I'm so blessed to have my family.  God truely had a plan when I met Joseph and He sent us our 3 beautiful children!  :)

First Blog Post...ever!

Hello all! This is my first ever blog post. I know, I know...I'm behind the times! What can I say?! I'm not the most technilogical person out there (I have to have my 3 year old show me how to do stuff on my iPhone!). But I thought I'd give it a try. Well - here goes nothin'!

If you're reading this, you probably already know me, but I'll give some basic info anyway. My name is Aimee. I'm a stay-at-home mom (or Domestic Engineer as I tell my kids!) to 3 beautiful children and I'm married to the most wonderful man (who just happens to be my high school sweetheart). My oldest is my daughter, Kaytlyn, who is currently in the 3rd grade. Being my only girl, she is pretty special! She is SUPER smart (I'm sure all parents think that about their kids, but it's really true when it comes to mine! ;) ) and she is one of the sweetest, most kind hearted people I've ever met. She keeps me busy with all her activities - softball, student council, UIL competitions, and many more things. Next is my middle child, Gage. He's in kindergarten and has more energy than any one child should be allowed! He loves to run, rough house with his dad and brother, play sports, laugh, and just act sill in general. I've never seen anyone, adult or child, that can befriend ANYONE the way this child can! He has truely never met a stranger! He loves playing soccer and wrestling. My third (and last) child is my son Cooper. He's 3 and just about as energetic as his older brother! He keeps me on my toes! He is 100% boy (and for those of you with boys, you know what I mean!) - always bruised, scraped, or bloody from running, jumping, and going non-stop! He hasn't started in any sports, yet, but I'm sure he'll join the ranks of his brother and sister soon enough.

My husband and I met in high school, although we went to different schools. We met when I started working for a local grocery store and he was already working there. He trained me to check the groceries my first night working and it was love at first sight...or at least it was for me. I waited 2 weeks for him to ask me out, but when that never happened, I finally just took the initiative and asked him out. He tries to say that he didn't ask me because his best friend (who also worked at the store with us) wanted to ask me out, but I think he was just shy. He was just so cute, though! He didn't say much to me, but he always had a big smile on his face. All his high school friends called him "Smiley". And, boy, did he look good in his tight Wrangler's that he wore to work! Oh...I forgot to mention - we live in Texas. Boys with cute butts in Wrangler's are kind of a big deal here! Anyway - we went on that first date and have been together ever since. We went to college together and got married the summer before my senior year. 13 1/2 years and 3 kids later and he's still the love of my life! And my heart still skips a beat when he wears Wrangler's! :)

I've been a stay-at-home mom for over 9 years now and it is the hardest job I've ever had! There is no "check list" of duties or time clock to punch in and out. It's a 24 hour a day/7 day a week/non-stop undertaking. Most days, if I've had a shower before 5:00 at night (or even at all!), I count that as a good day. But, even with all that, it is the most wonderful, rewarding job I've ever had! Being a mother is the dream job I never knew I wanted when I was in college trying to pick a major. My family brings me more joy and love than I could have ever imagined and I wouldn't trade it for anything!

I've started a little side business lately called Giggleberry Designs. I make screen-printed T-shirts, jewelry pendents, necklaces, diaper cakes, and many other random things. As soon as I get this whole blog thing figured out, I'll try my best to create a tab that shows pictures of my stuff.

I'm sure there are many more things I could say, but I guess that's all for now. Later!
